Injury-hit Simon Dyson will play through the pain this week in an attempt to secure a fourth KLM Open title.
The Englishman, who warmed up for the tournament with a tied 27th place finish at last week's Omega European Masters, has enjoyed great success in the €1.8million event, winning half of his six European Tour titles there.
The 34 year old was victorious at the Kennemer Golf and Country Club in 2006 and 2009, before adding to his Irish Open triumph with the crown again last year at Hilversumsche Golf Club in the Netherlands, which helped him finish in the top ten in The Race to Dubai.
Although Dyson's preparation this year for the competition's centenary has been hampered by injuries, he has refused to let it stop him defending his title.
"It was stop-start at the beginning of the year. We had a little girl in May so at the start of the year I was at home quite a lot," he said.
"We had Isabella and I started playing really well and should have won in Seville (Real Seguros Open de España) when I was a couple clear in the last round. Then I flew to the Players and could hardly walk. I had a stress fracture of the pelvis and had to take six weeks off.
"Then I got into a rhythm again and now I have a slipped tendon in my wrist which has to heal, but this is a tournament I would not have missed. I'm going to play through the pain barrier like I did last week and then I have three weeks off to rest it.
"It's when I put the club down to address the ball I feel it slip and then when I take it away it slips back. Sometimes it is okay and I don't feel it but sometimes it is really painful, especially on drives. Last week I tried to forget about it and played quite nicely. It is getting better and doesn't hurt as much as two weeks ago.
"I had an MRI scan on Monday in Leeds and there is a lot of swelling around it, with fluid protecting it. So I have to ice it and hope it heals."
Dyson added: "I remember playing my first European Tour event here when I got an invite back in 2000 when I was on the Asian Tour, so it has been really good to me. And to win three times has been amazing."
Another player to enjoy success in this tournament is Miguel Angel Jiménez, who was triumphant in 1994 - his second victory on The European Tour.
Although he has not featured in this event since 2003, the Spaniard, with an 11th-place finish in last week's Omega European Masters under his belt, is looking forward to his long-awaited return.
"It is nice to be back. I won here in 1994 and it has been tough to come back because of the number of tournaments we play in the year," he said.
"My second victory on Tour was here, so it is nice."
Despite the 48 year old missing out on a Ryder Cup place - instead he will be one of José María Olazábal's Vice Captains, he is confident his game is in a good place.
"I am playing well. I am striking the ball well but I had been struggling with my putter for the last couple of months," he added.
"Last week I changed the position of my hands and they started rolling. Not as many as I want but that is what you need to score.
"I love what I do in my life. I give everything to golf and golf gives me everything in my life. We are a good marriage. I enjoy myself doing what I am doing. I still feel something inside when I go to the first tee."
