Donald returns to happy hunting ground

Luke Donald returns to one of his favourite hunting grounds at the BMW PGA Championship looking to convert some good recent form into a first win of 2014.

The Englishman won at Wentworth Club in 2011 and 2012 – the former seeing him rise to World Number One.

Three top-ten finishes in his last seven events represents a decent return for Donald, but the 36 year old is keen to put his fond memories of the West Course to good use again this week.

“Obviously 2011, some of my best memories on the golf course for many reasons,” said Donald.

“Going down the stretch against Lee, and obviously getting to Number One in the world, that doesn't happen very often.

“So they are certainly memories that I'll always remember and will be fond to me.

“I've had some good results here the last few years, and always enjoy coming back. It's always a fun week with the crowd and the atmosphere at this tournament.

"It's very well supported, and obviously a very strong field for our European Flagship Event. Good to be here and good to be supporting The Tour.

“My form's been decent - it hasn't been spectacular.

“I had a chance a few weeks ago at Hilton Head, which is a course I've always played very well at. Any time you go through some changes, it takes time, and I'm still not 100 per cent comfortable with everything, but every week it seems to get a little bit easier.

“Certainly when I feel like it's in the groove, I feel very confident about some of the changes I've made. But you know, it's still taking a little bit of time to get that absolute comfort level, but I'm certainly pleased with decent results, considering the changes I've gone through.”

Asked about the key to his success at The European Tour’s headquarters, Donald highlighted his short game.

“In terms of my strengths, when they redid the greens, they became a lot smoother and I was able to use that,” he added. “My putting is a big strength of mine and I was able to putt a lot.

“When you miss around this course, you need pretty good short game. The bunkers are very deep. You need to be confident out of the sand.”
