Donald primed for Castle Stuart defence

Luke Donald hopes to complete a second successful title defence of the season at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open this week.

The World Number One shot a brilliant third round 63 at Castle Stuart Golf Links 12 months ago to win by four shots in an event shortened to 54 holes.

And the Englishman hopes to finalise his Open Championship preparations with another victory in Inverness.

Donald has already retained one European Tour title this season with victory in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

“I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “Every time you come back to an event that you won the year before, so many good memories come back of what you did well, the good experiences, and obviously that last round was pretty special.

“It was one of those rounds where everything seemed to click in place, one of those easy rounds of golf where every putt went in when I needed it to, and hit a lot of good quality shots. So I’m excited to be back here.

“I have much more belief in myself I can do it after doing it at Wentworth. That's the goal - to come here and try and win, and feed off some of the positives from last year and hopefully go back to back. That would be fun.

This week also sees Donald complete his 52nd week at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking, providing yet another accomplishment on his glittering CV.

“Obviously I’m very proud of that - to be a collective year at Number One is something I'm very proud of,” he added.
