• Aloha Golf Club will be staging an official European Tour event for the first time. The venue did host the 1989 Benson and Hedges Trophy – a mixed team event with players from The European Tour and Ladies European Tour. The event was won by local resident, Miguel Angel Jiménez and Xonia Wunsch-Ruiz.
• Jiménez will be looking to add his 14th European Tour International Schedule title to his name with victory in the Valle Romano Open de Andalucia. Four of his 13 triumphs have been on Spanish soil, including two in the Andalucia region – both in 1999 – Turespaña Masters Open Andalucia, at Parador Malaga del Golf and the Volvo Masters at Montecastillo.
• This tournament is the second Spanish stop on the 2007 European Tour International Schedule. In all five events will be played on that country’s soil this season. The last time Spain witnessed five was in 2004 and before that in 1999. The one season-record for Spain is eight back in 1993.
• The Valle Romano Open de Andalucia will be the 24th official European Tour event to be held in the Andalucia region since The European Tour’s first season in 1972. In all, Spain as a whole has seen 137 official European Tour events since 1972, prior to this week.
