Dennis glad to be in control ahead of season finale

European Senior Tour Order of Merit leader Clark Dennis says he is pleased to be in control of his own destiny ahead of the season-ending MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius, from December 8-10.

The 51 year old, in his first season on the Senior Tour, has a lead of more than €25,000 at the top of the Order of Merit. If he is to become the first American to lift the John Jacobs Trophy,Dennis knows he must win or finish outright second at Constance Belle Mare Plage.

“There are some great players behind me on the Order of Merit,” said Dennis. “You don’t have any control over who plays well.

“I control my own destiny; If I play well, I’ll win the Order of Merit. It’s good to know I’m in control, and I’d rather be in this position than third or fourth and hoping that things go my way.”

After trailing South Africa’s Chris Williams on the Order of Merit since the season-opening Sharjah Senior Golf Masters presented by Shurooq, Dennis took first place on the season-long rankings after his victory at The Dutch Masters in October.

Dennis’s win at The Dutch added to his maiden victory at the Senior Italian Open presented by Villaverde Resort, and cemented his position as European Senior Tour Rookie of the Year.

“Wherever I finish in Mauritius, it’s more than I could have hoped for at the beginning of this year,” he said. “Not knowing the courses, or how I’d cope with all the travel, I feel like I’ve over-achieved this year; and it’s a nice feeling to have.

“I’m really looking forward to the MCB Tour Championship. I’ve heard Mauritius is a beautiful place and that the golf course is fantastic.

“I’ll go there like I have every tournament. I’ll be prepared to play well, and what happens, happens.”
