India's Atwal had led from the tournament's start after opening with a sparkling 62 but, depite birdieing the short third on Saturday, a bogey at the next took him back to ten under after four holes.

He was joined on that mark by South Africa's Louis De Jager, who also picked up a shot on the third, and France's Romain Langasque.

Langasque briefly led on his own after adding to a gain at the fourth with four birdies in a row from the seventh, but dropped his first shot of the day at the 11th.

Portugal's José-Filipe Lima and South African Dylan Frittelli were a shot off the pace at nine under on an increaingly congested leaderboard.

Atwal went ahead again with birdies on the seventh and eighth, although De Jager matched the latter to stay within one.

Former Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen began his back nine with a hat-trick of gains to take outright third on ten under.
