Day two digest: WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play

Everything you need to know from Thursday in Texas.

Austin Country Club

A trio of Ryder Cup heroes stayed perfect, Bob proved he can mix it with the very best, rivals showed they can be friends and one guy displayed his water skills on day two at the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

Here is everything you need to know from the second batch of round robin matches at Austin Country Club.

The usual suspects

Ian Poulter is one of the fiercest match play competitors the game has ever known and he maintained his 100% record. Sergio Garcia is Europe's all-time top Ryder Cup points scorer and he maintained his 100% record. Jon Rahm is the World Number Three and beat the great Tiger Woods at the 2018 Ryder Cup, and he maintained his 100% record. Of the 64 players in the field, only ten have yet to taste defeat after two matches. "Just hole your putts and take care of business and you can be a real pain in the backside. I love this format. It's really simple," said Poulter. It's not Ian. You guys just make it look simple.

Battling Bob feels he belongs

The match of the day was undoubtedly the all square contest between Robert MacIntyre and World Number One Dustin Johnson. Bob won three holes in a row around the turn and was two up with three to play but DJ is not the top seed and 2017 champion for nothing. He hit a stunner into the 16th to seal an eagle and then birdied the 17th to take a stunning contest up the last. MacIntyre could not claim the biggest scalp in the field but he was pleased with his work. "I was dying to win that match," he said. "I was in such a great position to do it. But he threw everything at me and I can be proud of finishing there all square but obviously inside I'm a little disappointed not to win. But once we walk away from here and get in the car and drive back to the house, it's going to be, 'You know what? I can compete with these best guys on the planet'." Those of us who have watched you for a while suspected that already, Bob.

Look away now......

Those of you with a nervous disposition may not want to watch this. Is he lucky? Is he unlucky? Any which way, Si Woo Kim made his birdie.

Sergio's wedge wood

We all know these guys can drive the par four 13th here in Austin. But to get your three wood to stop dead five feet from the hole, that is something else. Take a bow, Sergio.

What it's really about

Tyrrell Hatton and Matt Wallace played out an all square match on Wednesday. On Thursday, they both lost and will now be heading home before the weekend. But in the middle of all that, they found some time for this. You love to see it.

We want one of these

We're not sure what this is. We're not sure where to find one. But we will. Never change, Austin.
