Colsaerts climbing again, the ace that never was and a record breaking American were among the stories in round two at Le Golf National.

Coetzee and Colsaerts cozy up

Nicolas Colsaerts will go down in history as a member of the Ryder Cup team that pulled off the Miracle at Medinah but in the seven years since that dramatic day, he is yet to seal another win. The big hitting Belgian is currently fighting to keep his playing privileges at 114th on the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex and a 66 on Friday boosted those chances as he moved to nine under and into a share of the lead. He has George Coetzee for company after the South African recovered from a double bogey to come home in 31 and they are one shot clear of America's Kurt Kitayama.

Le Golf National bites back

Day one in Paris was low scoring with trimmed back rough and receptive greens, and there were even whispers that we may see a course record this week. That could still be the case but nobody got near 62 on Friday as heavy overnight rain caused the course to play long and cold and windy conditions made the morning particularly tricky. All that taken into account, the round of the day may belong to Niklas Lemke after the Swede teed off at 9.35am and carded a 67 on a morning where only eight players went under par. At 117th on the Race to Dubai Rankings Presented by Rolex, he's picked a useful time to grind.

Eagles send Swafford flying

The lowest round of the day was a 65 from Hudson Swafford and it was a record breaker to boot. The American became the first player ever to make three eagles in one round at Le Golf National as he bagged big birds on the par five third and 14th and added a two on the par four 13th. He also made four birdies but cancelled them out with the same number of dropped shots.

Slam dunk! Oh, hang on..........

There is bad luck and then there is this. Gavin Moynihan saw his perfect tee shot on the par three 16th pitch straight into the hole - and then bounce out - denying him a BMW i8 Roadster.

"I thought it was going to go in the water at one point but it went down, obviously had spin coming out of the hole, and it spun back to about 12 or 15 feet," he said. "Everyone on the tee was reminding me of the car. I was happy with par but I couldn't believe it stayed out."
