Day two digest: 2022 Ras Al Khaimah Classic

Everything you need to know from day two at Al Hamra Golf Club.

Al Hamra Golf Club

Fox had his tail up, Bekker went seriously low, Højgaard was a pin-seeker and seven was the lucky number in round two of the 2022 Ras Al Khaimah Classic.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday in the desert.

Fighting-fit Fox cutting the mustard

Ryan Fox revealed a missed cut last week may have been the key to his success as he carded a 69 on day two to open up a three-shot lead. The Kiwi was suffering with back trouble at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship presented by Phoenix Capital and missed out on the weekend by one seven days ago. A weekend of treatment looks to have done the trick, however, and after an opening 63 in round one of the second consecutive event at Al Hamra Golf Club, he moved to 12 under on day two to lead the way. “I struggled with my back last week and I was fighting, everything was crossed over and I didn’t know where I was aiming," he said. "I was just pretty much trying to hit the ball to be honest and I was probably quite glad I had a weekend off." Not often you hear that.

Bekker plays a blinder

Oliver Bekker was in serious need of a good second round after an opening 73 left him in danger of missing the cut. What he produced was better than good as the South African went 11 shots better in a course-record 62 that had us on 59 Watch at nine under through 12. "Ten under par, even if somebody said eight or seven under par I would have said thank you very much, so I'm very happy." So you should be, Oliver.

Højgaard hunting pins

Last week's winner Nicolai Højgaard has enjoyed his time at Al Hamra and it's shots like this that show you why. Shame you don't always get rewarded for them.

Lucky for some

Seven is a lucky number for some and the seventh was certainly bringing Laurie Canter some joy - not that there was a lot of luck involved. What a shot.

David Law holed a chip at the seventh, too.
