Day two digest: 2021 Tenerife Open

Von Dellingshausen stayed in the moment, Jamieson was one shot from history, Rousaud remained on a roll and we had yet another hole-in-one in the second round of the 2021 Tenerife Open.

Von Dellingshausen jumps clear

Nicolai von Dellingshausen arrived on Tenerife without full playing privileges or a European Tour top ten to his name but a second round 62 put him in pole position to take care of both of those problems. The German added a birdie-eagle finish to seven birdies and a bogey to take a three shot lead at 16 under, and believes he has learned a lot after carding a 74 when in contention on Sunday at the Austrian Golf Open two weeks ago. "That’s what I took from the Sunday in Austria," he said. "I’m a thinker, so I like being more in the future or in the past, it’s a big challenge to stay in the present moment - I think I’ve done that a lot better the last two days."

The aces keep on coming

We have had a frankly remarkable run of holes-in-one on the European Tour of late and Callum Shinkwin added to it on the second. The Englishman holed an eight iron from 173 yards to join Joost Luiten in the ace club after the Dutchman hit a perfect shot on the same hole on day one. That takes the season's tally to 16, with 12 in the last seven events and two at each of the Magical Kenya Open presented by Johnnie Walker, Kenya Savannah Classic supported by Absa, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play and Masters Tournament as well as this week. Easy game, really.

Another shot at history for Jamieson

It was back at the 2013 Portugal Masters when Scott Jamieson carded 11 birdies in his first 17 holes in round three and needed another on the last to shoot a 59. He could not hole the chip he needed but he had another chance on Friday as after birdies on the first, second, third, fourth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th and 17th, he was left needing an albatross on the par five last. His second shot was on line but could not make it up the ridge and rolled off the green, with two putts handing him a closing birdie and a course record 61. If he ever gets another chance, let's hope it's third time lucky for Scott.

Rousaud in the money

Eduard Rousaud took another step forward in his fledgling career as he made his first cut on the European Tour on Friday. After four missed cuts as an amateur and one last week after turning pro, the 20-year-old followed his opening 64 with a 66 to not only peg it up on the weekend but also be just four shots off the lead. "The last month has been difficult for me because I have just turned pro and I didn’t play as good as I would like but I’m just trying to keep my head up," he said. "I’ve worked hard the last two or three years so I know I can be here. It’s maybe a matter of time, a matter of attitude. I’ve been working on my attitude the last three or four days. Honestly, I’m not thinking about that (the prospect of winning). I just want to keep improving my attitude, keep improving my game, keep learning."
