Day two digest: 2021 Dutch Open

Kristoffer found some form, Maarten said goodbye, Toby was chasing the ace - again - and we had some spectacular hole outs on day two of the 2021 Dutch Open.

Broberg goes low

The last few years have not been the easiest for Kristoffer Broberg. After a rise in the game that saw him win three times in four weeks on the European Challenge Tour in 2012 and become a European Tour winner in 2015, his body has let him down. Hip and knee injuries contributed to him playing just 11 events between 2018 and 2020 but with his fitness returning, he fired a 64 on Friday to lead by one shot after 36 holes. "I am taking it one shot at a time," he said. "I have been struggling all year with injuries, so it is nice to be playing good again. It’s just golf, so taking it one shot at a time. I was home for a month so saw an optician for my right eye and they saw something, so I have a contact lens on that eye so now I can see the putts on the line. I am rolling it pretty good so happy with it."

Farewell and thank you, Maarten

Maarten Lafeber's victory at this event in 2003 produced the first home winner at the Dutch Open in 56 years and came as he enjoyed a run of ten top 100 finishes in 11 years on European Rankings. In recent years, he has turned to coaching and now the 46-year-old will focus on that full-time after calling it a day for his European Tour career after 423 events. "It's been great, I've played it 24 times," he said of the Dutch Open. "Walking through the fairways yesterday with all these people here, I'm really proud that I could win this event in 2003. I've played many years on Tour and made some great memories and I felt if I want to stop, I want to stop here."

Tree hits the heights

Some golfers won't get a hole-in-one in their entire career - Toby Tree has two this season. The Englishman holed a three iron from 231 yards at the sixth to claim the 30th ace of the 2021 Race to Dubai. Incredibly, Alexander Levy, Tommy Fleetwood and Joost Luiten all also have two holes-in-one in 2021.

Double take
