Day two digest: 2021 BMW International Open

Everything you need to know from day two in Bavaria.

Niall was eager to make his mark, Bernd had eyes on the skipper, Pedro was saved from a dip and the marquee group showed their class in round two of the 2021 BMW International Open.

Here is everything you need to know from Friday at Golfclub München Eichenried.

Kearney on the march

Niall Kearney does not have full playing privileges on the European Tour but he looked very much at home in just his 22nd event as he carded a 68 to take a two shot lead at 11 under. The Irishman had missed his last three cuts after securing his first top ten at the Canary Islands Championship, and he was eager to truly establish himself this week. "It’s a great opportunity," he said. "This year has been great for me. I’m getting lots of starts in nice tournaments. I’ve got to try and take the opportunities as well. I got off to a decent start in Spain in the Canaries, I just need to march on from there."

Wiesberger still learning from the skipper

Bernd Wiesberger admitted he was still learning from Padraig Harrington after spending the first two days in Munich in the company of the Ryder Cup Captain. You could easily assume that the Irishman would be keeping a beady eye on his potential team member for the autumn but Wiesberger revealed the watching brief went both ways. "At the end of the day, we’re still trying to compete out here, he has his stuff figured out off the golf course and results will hopefully determine who will be on his team," he said. "It was a pleasure playing with him. A lot to take from his demeanour out on the course."

My caddie is better than yours

There are many risks to playing a shot from near water: to your scorecard, your wardrobe and maybe even your body. Luckily, Pedro Figueiredo has a caddie to get him out of trouble.

Throw a blanket over them

What do you get when you combine two Major Champions and the World Number 14? Some remarkable iron play.

The early bird catches the.......bird(ie)

Many of the players had to return to complete round one after Thursday's storms but that was no distraction for Adrien Saddier. The Frenchman was two under when he got out of bed but he picked up four birdies in his remaining eight holes to sign for a 66. Another five in his first 12 holes of round two had him in a share of the lead and while he lost some ground in a 69, he heads into the weekend nine under. "I finished my first round this morning pretty nicely with four birdies, so I had good momentum," he said. "I kept playing well and it is nice to be in the tournament."

Stunning from Sergio

Sergio Garcia does not not like missing cuts but at level par with five to play, he was in serious danger of heading home on Friday night. This was his reaction. Sergio will be teeing it up on Saturday.
