Day three digest: Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett

Everything you need to know from day three at The Belfry.

Adrian Meronk

Steady Eddie hit the front, devastating Dodo was not far behind, Bob was planning a personal training ground and Tiger (not that one) made an appearance on day three of the 2021 Betfred British Masters hosted by Danny Willett.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at The Belfry.

Pepperell getting back in the groove

After two seasons without a win, Eddie Pepperell admitted that he was still finding golf "difficult" at the minute. Well if he plays like this when it's difficult, everyone else best beware when it's easy. The home favourite carded a 68 with a birdie on the last to get to ten under. "I've still got things going on in the swing that I can feel aren't where they once were and can cause me aggro so the game still feels difficult," he said. "I can remember the game feeling easier when I was playing better a few years ago but that's where I'm trying to get back to and I'm confident I will. I feel good, I feel really calm, I'm quite enjoying generally hitting better shots. I'm having a good time out on the course but I'm very much still in the process." He leads by one with six players in second and 26 within five shots - Sunday should be fun.

And he's putting well

They were going in from everywhere. Dean Burmester holed an 80 footer, Adrian Meronk holed two from over 50 feet and Eddie was not missing out on the action.

Dodo goes lowlow

Edoardo Molinari feels he is striking the ball as well as he ever has done, including the 2010 season when he claimed two wins to make the Ryder Cup team, but the putter has been letting him down. So the man who other players turn to for help with their statistics enlisted some help himself in the shape of coach Andy Paisley, brother of 2018 South African Open champion Chris. It looks to be paying off as he carded a 64 that was the lowest round of the week to sit just one shot off the lead. "I’ve known Chris for a long time, I’ve been helping him and a few of the other guys with their stats, and I noticed all the guys working with his brother Andy were improving their putting stats,” he said. “I had been putting so poorly lately, I had been on my own trying to do each thing differently every week and I felt like I needed a little bit more structure and definitely some help. If a ten handicap (player) putted from the beginning of the season instead of me, I think I would be doing better." A touch of hyperbole maybe but if the short stick behaves on Sunday, Edoardo could be looking at European Tour title number four.

Bob the builder

Another man one shot off the lead is Robert MacIntyre, who carded a 70 with three birdies and a bogey to get to nine under. While Edoardo wants to improve his putting, Bob is looking to get his chipping in order and he thinks he knows just the way. "I've not really got the facilities at home," he said. "But the more I play out here and the more money I make the more I can make that happen at home, I can build stuff at home." Now come on, who doesn't want a practice facility in their back garden?

Who's that in the bushes?

We've seen lots of ducks and squirrels this week, but this is the first sighting of the players being stalked by a Tiger.
