It got seriously tight at the top, the contenders got philosophical and we were shown there is more than one way to get at the pin on day three of the 2021 Tenerife Open.

Here is everything you need to know from Saturday on the Canary Islands.

All to play for

At the start of the day, Nicolai von Dellingshausen had a three shot lead and with low scores over days one and two, all the signs were only a few would stay with him. But with tougher scoring all round and the leader carding a one under par 71, there are now 20 players within five shots of the lead. The German still holds that lead but he has Finn Kalle Samooja for company and in form pair John Catlin and Garrick Higgo just two back. Add in European Tour winner Dean Burmester at 16 under and we should be in for quite a shoot out.

It's all in the mind

Burmester is looking for a first win since his Tshwane Open triumph in 2017 and after a 66 he admitted he is trying to be less hard on himself. "I’m one of those guys that is really passionate and I want to do well," he said. "When things look bad and the ball doesn’t go in the hole it kind of gets a little frustrating. I’m learning how to deal with that and not be hard on myself. Find other ways of taking it out so I can get to the next shot and be ready to hit it." Sebastian Garcia Rodriguez is one shot behind Burmester as he looks for a first European Tour win and he too is trying to put less pressure on himself. "I have been speaking a lot with my caddie to help me improve and his advice has been to smile more and just enjoy it," he said. "Now I’m trying to play with a smile. It has helped me to have more self-confidence and that has reflected in the scores. My goal is just to keep the confidence up and play the same way." The most important yardage in golf is the six inches between the ears.

Samooja parachutes in

You will not see many better shots around the green than this from Samooja at the 15th.

And he produced a similar trick on the 18th to make his birdie. Well played, sir.

Anything you can do........

We've already had two holes-in-one this week and Adrian Meronk was inches from another.

Then so was Sihwan Kim.

Must be catching

Anyone for terrace?

These have been grabbing attention all week. Walls of rock across some of the fairways form almost giant steps. Have you got these at your local club?
