George Coetzee came from way back to take over at the top of the leaderboard on Moving Day at the 2020 Portugal Masters.
Here is everything you need to know from the third round at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course.
Coetzee's fantastic finish
Coetzee began the day eight shots behind halfway leader Julien Guerrier, but with the Frenchman heading in the wrong direction on Saturday afternoon, the four time European Tour champion took full advantage. After carding three birdies and a solitary bogey in his first 15 holes, Coetzee came agonisingly close to holing his approach into the long 17th for an albatross but had to settle for a tap-in eagle. And he closed his round with a confident 12 foot birdie putt at the last to finish on 11 under par and take a one shot lead into the final day.
Birdie blitz puts Tommy in contention
When World Number 16 Tommy Fleetwood mixed two birdies with a double bogey and a bogey on his front nine, it looked like he would have very little to play for on Sunday before heading to Winged Foot Golf Club for next week's U.S. Open Championship. But he bounced back in style, reeling off four straight birdies from the 12th to move to six under. That leaves him just five shots off the lead with one round to go.
Nienaber lands incredible eagle
Young South African Wilco Nienaber was having a quiet round until he got to the long fifth, opening up with four straight pars. The big hitter changed all that when he holed his third shot for an eagle...
Guerrier's delightful chip
Guerrier began his third round with a commanding five shot advantage after backing up Thursday's 62 with a superb 66 on day two. He showed his desire to hold onto his lead with this tremendous up-and-down for par from a bad lie in the rough at the first...
Sadly for the Frenchman, that shot was as good as it got on Saturday as he made no birdies and four bogeys in a 75 to surrender the lead.
Canter not far behind
Following Friday's one over par 72, Englishman Laurie Canter had to hit the ground running on day three, so the last thing he needed was an opening bogey. But he recovered straight away with back to back birdies on the second and third before making further gains at the fifth and ninth to turn in 32. He dropped a shot at the long 12th but got it back on the 17th to finish the day two shots behind Coetzee. He said: "I felt like I played better today than I did on Thursday but didn’t quite get as much as I did out of today. If you keep doing that around here, the great thing about how it is playing is that you are being rewarded for it, so I just hope I can knock in a few more putts tomorrow."
