Day three digest: 2020 ISPS Handa Vic Open

The Lees made it a family affair, Fraser flourished with an old friend and the locals put on a short stick masterclass in the third round at 13th Beach Golf Club.

Lee-sy does it

With it's mixed field and fans on the fairways, the ISPS Handa Vic Open always has a unique feel but we could see something truly special on Sunday. Min Woo Lee leads the men's event by three shots after a 68, while his sister Minjee is just five back in the women's contest, meaning siblings could be sharing the winner's circle on the 18th green. "I'm not sure how Minjee is going, hopefully she's playing okay, and we can tussle it out to the end," said Min Woo after his round. "It would be nice to win a tournament and I think it would be one of the only tournaments that a brother and sister has won, so that should be cool."

What a finish

Min Woo Lee had just bogeyed the 17th to see his lead cut to one but with a downwind par five to finish, the big hitting Australian knew the 18th presented an opportunity. And didn't he just take it.

Blustery at the beach

The wind may have helped Lee on the last but it made things distinctively difficult for most of the day, with only eight players breaking 70. What will Sunday have in store?

Fraser masters the elements

One of the players to break 70 was Marcus Fraser, whose 69 left him just three shots off the lead. And the 41-year-old used all his experience to get into position for European Tour win number four. "It's one of the first lessons I ever got taught: the wind is your friend, don't try to fight it," he said. "A lot of times you're trying to turn it back into the breeze and, when it's strong, you double cross it or you get it going so far on the breeze. Just use the wind and just let it be your friend."

Mixing it up

After the second cut was made was made on Saturday night, we were left with 40 players in the women's draw and 38 in the men's, so Sam Horsfield, Geoff Ogilvy and Peiyun Chien will go out in a mixed threeball in the first group on Sunday. That feels appropriate as 2006 U.S. Open Championship winner Ogilvy has been one of the biggest advocates of the mixed format.

Murray's monster

The gusts were making putting very difficult but Zach Murray clearly didn't get the memo. Take a bow.
