Here is everything you need to know from day one at Emirates Golf Club.

Casey's iron show

Paul Casey only arrived in Dubai late on Tuesday evening but it did not take long for him to adjust to the 12 hour time difference from California. The 43-year-old surged to four under par through four after dialling his tee shot at the par three 11th - his second hole - to four feet and he nearly holed out his approach at the next for a third straight birdie. A terrific bunker shot at the 13th made it four in a row before he sent approaches to within three feet at the 16th and third to sit three adrift of the leader Richard Sterne at five under.

Vamos, Nacho!

Nacho Elvira had a a round of two halves in Dubai which included the first ace of the season. The Spaniard reached the turn in three over after dropped shots at the first, fifth and ninth but by the time he was standing at the 12th tee, he was level par. A birdie at the tenth was followed by a stunning hole-in-one at the 170 yard par three 11th, which saw him win a four night ultra all inclusive stay at JA Resorts and Hotels, and added another gain at the 13th to climb into the red numbers.

The 2013 U.S. Open Champion found himself with an early uphill battle on the Majlis Championship Course following a par-bogey-double bogey start on the back nine to sit at three over par. But the former World Number One hit back instantly with back to back birdies, and he did not stop there with further gains at the 16th and 18th to round off his opening nine holes in the red numbers.

Casual par for Stenson

Henrik Stenson will thank the golfing gods after his miraculous par at the par five 13th. The Swede found water with his second shot and had to take a drop on the bank, with the flag tucked in at the front of the green. However, the 2016 Open Championship winner produced this wedge shot to salvage a stunning par...

Young Jordanian starts proceedings

Shergo Al Kurdi had the honour of hitting the opening tee shot of the 2021 Omega Dubai Desert Classic. The 17-year-old is Jordan's leading amateur and is a player to look out for in the coming years. He won the 2019 Jordan Open amateur event by eight shots and will play in the another star studded field after earning an exemption for next week's Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers.
