Dantorp soars to the top in Scotland

Jens Dantorp of Sweden soared to the top of the leaderboard midway through the second day of the Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts as a six under par 65 moved him to 12 under par on another day of low scoring.

The 24 year old did not look like threatening the leaderboard early on after he bogeyed the second hole to slip to five under following an opening round 65, but back to back birdies at the fifth and sixth holes got him moving in the right direction.

Another shot gained at the ninth took him to the turn in two under before a scorching finish, with four birdies in the last five holes, elevated him to the summit, two shots ahead of the next best in the clubhouse with the overnight leaders Alan Dunbar and Byeong-hun An still on the course.

“The course fits my eye,” said Dantorp. “It’s really clear what you have to do, you can see the fairway clearly and the heather is almost purple so you can see where you need to it, it’s all very clear. I have hit my driver pretty good this week with my new driver.

“I haven’t really got myself into a top position so far this year so hopefully this week will be different. This week I feel something has happened and hope I can bring that feeling into the weekend.”

Four players were two shots behind Dantorp on ten under par, including two Scots in Jack Doherty and Duncan Stewart.

Doherty signed for a second consecutive five under 66 while Stewart added a four under par 67 to add to his opening 65.
