Haydn Porteous signed for a closing 69 to get to 13 under and win the D+D REAL Czech Masters by two shots at Albatross Golf Resort.
Here, we take look at what some of the chasing pack had to say after the final round.
Lee Slattery (73, -11)
"Obviously bitterly disappointed to have lost but Haydn is a good friend so it always makes it a little easier. I putted well the first few days and today it just let me down a bit. I missed a few short ones which I hadn’t done all week and that was the only difference really, I felt like I could have shot three under today – I had a couple of three-putts at the wrong time – but overall on the back nine I played really solid. To have four weeks off, there has been a lot going on at home with the baby and moving house, so to come into this week and finish runner-up is a great achievement. I will always look back at that seven under par second round as one of the best rounds I’ve ever played in those conditions but to shoot 73 in the last round and to lose by two is going to be tough to take."
Pontus Widegren (70, -10)
“It was a little up and down. I was very pleased with the front nine and felt like I was moving in the right direction. Didn’t really take advantage of ten and 12, and from there on it was hot foot really, made some good putts coming down the stretch for pars and made a fantastic one on 18. I liked it a lot, it’s what you practise for. It’s what I have wanted to do all year really with all of the starts that I have had and I’m just very pleased to have put myself in this position."
Tom Lewis (67, -10)
"I’m pleased. If someone said ten under at the beginning of the week, I would have taken it. I played solidly today, I don’t think I dropped a shot and I would have happily taken a Sunday without dropping a shot. It has been there for a long time. My downfall is that I don’t really trust myself enough, my instincts, and this week I did that a little bit more and hopefully I can take that going forward and hole putts like I did this week and you never know what’s to come. I have got to take confidence. I haven’t got many events left and I have to use this as a confidence boost and if I can keep doing this every single week, my week will come."
Oscar Lengden (68, -8)
"Absolutely phenomenal. I have never been in contention before and today I handled it very well so I’m very pleased with the tournament overall, it’s a great week to be here, the Czech Republic has been really fun. For me especially, I was really happy with the situation I was in at the beginning of the year, knowing that I would probably play three or four European Tour events and then focus on the Challenge Tour. So for me it’s been great to take the next step because it’s prepared me for the rest of my life."
Lee Westwood (68, -7)
“I haven’t really made much all week until I chipped in on 12 today but I am rolling the ball better on the greens, it just wouldn’t seem to go in. A couple of three-putts today were my only two bogeys and I played pretty solidly, so it could have been a lot less and I really should have been in contention this week. There has been a lot of positives to look at this week and I’m looking forward to playing my 500th European Tour event next week in Switzerland. It’s quite a milestone to reach 500 tournaments because I have played a lot in the States as well which don’t count, so it’s no wonder the joints ache a bit.”
