Czech Masters worth the weight

With the Czech Masters set to return to the European Tour International Schedule from August 21-24, it has been announced that the winner this year will receive a unique melted glass trophy, which weighs in at an impressive 24 kilograms.

Designed by Miroslav Drobnik, the 63cm tall sculpture represents the country, and is an authentic representation of the area around the Host City Prague, according to the promoter.

“We wanted it to be something authentic and local, which is why we opted for glass. From there, it was only a small step to crystal and the subsequent design the trophy has taken,” said Petr Dedek, Chairman of the Board, RELMOST.

The Czech Masters returns this year hoping to enhance the reputation of the Czech Republic as a recognised golf destination.

Being held in the capital city, the tournament in Prague is sure to welcome plenty of support from the local community, and going forward, it is hoped that it will encourage greater participation in the sport.

“By hosting these European Tour events we hope that it acts as a demonstration of how sport brings people closer together,” said Jiri Vavra, First Deputy Mayor of Prague. “Golfers of all age groups can come together and spend their free time well, which these days has a very positive impact on children who would otherwise spend their time sitting in front of a computer screen.

“That is why we have been encouraging schools, families with children, or senior citizens to participate, as golf is a sport to be played by everyone. We are also working with special education and alternative schools.

“Our common goal is to inspire people to spend their free time time proactively, to connect people across generations and to highlight the prestige of our teachers.”

For those in attendance in August there will be plenty going on aside from the chance to watch the great and good of The Race to Dubai, with activities for families and children on offer as part of a fun and educational programme at the event.

‘‘Children will be able to try SNAG golf, which is a playful form of golf using plastic clubs and Velcro balls, with students from the Slavicek Golf Academy on hand to help out,” said David Trunda, Sports Director, RELMOST. “At the Mind Former stand, children will also be able to solve a mind map connected with English vocab learning.

“We will also encourage a crossing of generations, with members of the Senior Fitness Organization and Czech Handicapped Golf Association participating in all the activities across the tented village.”

Three official hotels will be waiting for all of those associated with the event, with players, journalists and staff able to choose from three four-star Vienna International Hotels – the Andels, Angelo and Diplomat – across Prague.

“The Vienna International Hotels & Resorts is honored to be the only long-term partner of RELMOST when it comes to hosting these events in Prague,” said Francois Mary, Regional Director, Vienna International Hotel Management AG.

“Our thanks go to Petr Dedek and David Trunda for their creativity and enthusiasm, with their professional approach and motivation having taken the event to a whole new level, which the Vienna International Czech Republic is honored to be part of.

“We are convinced that our hotels will provide the perfect facilities for the players, caddies, their families, the press, sponsors and many more.”
