Paul Casey is looking forward to being reminded he has “one of the best jobs in the world” at this week’s Omega European Masters.
Injuries have derailed the Englishman recently; a rare case of “turf toe” started the problems before a shoulder issue hampered his progress more recently.
Those problems have meant Casey has been unable to rediscover the outstanding form that helped him reach a career high third place in the World Golf Rankings three years ago.
Yet those worries will be at the back of the 35 year old’s mind as he gets ready to play at the the picturesque Crans-sur-Sierre course in Crans Montana, Switzerland.
The seventh hole, in particular, is memorable as players are greeted by a quite amazing view of the neighbouring Alps.
“When you’re out at the seventh tee, the classic image you see, it’s stunning,” he said. “It’s a wonderful place to play golf, not just for the views but also for the people and how we’re treated here.
“It's been five years since I was here, although it doesn’t feel that long. There have been some small changes to the course, and I'm really looking forward to getting out there.
“There are a few holes where you’re not thinking of what club you’re going to hit or what sort of shot you want to shape, and that’s definitely one of them because you’re more interested in taking in the scenery.
“As soon as you walk on the tee, there’s very little thought about the three wood or whatever you’re going to hit, and you realise you've got one of the best jobs in the world.”
Casey is upbeat about his own form and hoping to end 2012 on a high as he looks to build some momentum ahead of next season on The European Tour.
“I’ll be playing mainly on The European Tour (next year), and the aim is to get back into the winners’ circle,” he said.
“But I believe my best years are still ahead of me, because I feel I’m capable of playing better golf than I did in 2006, or 2009. This year’s been tough, so I’m already looking forward to the remaining events this year and getting off to a fast start next year.”
