Connor Syme aims to end year in style with first DP World Tour win

Connor Syme is hoping he can enjoy the perfect finish to his year by claiming his maiden DP World Tour title at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open.

The Scotsman is making his final appearance of 2023 this week and sits in a tie for second, three shots adrift of halfway leader Min Woo Lee in Sydney.

After opening with a seven-under-par 64 at The Australian Golf Club he followed it up with a two under 70 in the second round on Friday at The Lakes Golf Club to reach nine under through 36 holes.

After finishing a career-high 28th on the Race to Dubai Rankings in partnership with Rolex last season, Syme has continued the momentum into the new campaign.

He began the DP World Tour’s Opening Swing with a tie for 13th at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship in Brisbane and he is firmly in the mix again.

Syme, a graduate of the European Challenge Tour at the end of 2019, holds memories of success Down Under having won the Australian Amateur in 2016 and those good vibes are helping him this week.

“Amazing memories from winning the Australian Amateur down here seven years ago or something now," he said.

“That was a real catalyst in my amateur career for pressing on. Obviously, it’s brilliant I’m back down here playing and I’m excited to be down here.

“The golf has been pretty good so far so I’d love to contend and it would definitely be brilliant to win.

“It’s a great opportunity and [my] last event of the year so hopefully I can end it on a high.”
