Colsaerts moves into contention

Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts showed he was in top form ahead of The Ryder Cup by moving into a share of the lead during the third round of the BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi.

The European Tour’s longest hitter birdied four holes in a row around the turn and six of his first 11 to join England’s Richard Bland on 12 under par at Royal Park I Roveri.

Bland, without a victory in ten years on Tour, led overnight after consecutive rounds of 66 and as a result was waiting to go out in the final group.

Plenty of players were queueing up to knock him off the top of the leaderboard before he teed off however, with eight on 11 under par.

Marc Warren, Garth Mulroy, Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño and Grégory Bourdy were all waiting to begin their rounds, and had been joined by Emiliano Grillo, Phillip Price, Thomas Nørret and Richard Sterne.

Argentina’s Grillo was five under through 15, Welshman Price four under after eight, Dane Nørret four under having played seven and South African Sterne had birdied his first two holes.
