Chapman's dream lives on

Roger Chapman’s defence of the US Senior PGA Championship is underway and a year in from his momentous victory, he is still living the dream.

Chapman’s victory 12 months ago at Harbor Shores sparked the most incredible year as he went on to also win the US Senior Open a few weeks later and ultimately capture the John Jacobs Trophy as the European Senior Tour Number One at the end of the season.

The new campaign is now underway for the European Senior Tour but 2012 will forever stand out for Chapman.

“I keep using the word "special," but it is an incredible year that I have had,” he said on the eve of his defence. ”It's difficult to put into words, but sometimes you just say, dreams come true.

“You keep knocking on the door and something good happens.  And those two tournaments last year were the best thing that's ever happened to me in my golfing career by far.”

One of Chapman’s duties as defending champion was the host the Champions Dinner on Tuesday night and that was another wonderful experience especially sharing it with his wife Cathy.

“It was a real honour for me to have the other past champions and PGA champions there,” he said. “It made it a special, special night for me and for Cathy to be there as well, to be part of it, because she wasn't at Harbor Shores, it just made it fantastic evening.

“Hale Irwin and Tom Watson spoke and the guys said some nice things, which was even better.  So all in all it went well.  And the chef cooked a great meal.  Even got the Yorkshire pudding right!”
