Chapman made honorary member of Woburn

Roger Chapman has been awarded honorary membership of Woburn Golf Club, something the Englishman admits came “totally out of the blue”.

At a dinner hosted by the Duke of Bedford, the Chairman of Woburn Golf Club, during the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters at the same venue, Chapman was bestowed with honorary membership in recognition of his magnificent double Major-winning season. Manuel Piñero was also given honorary membership at the dinner, which took place in the magnificent Woburn Abbey.

Chapman, 53, won the US Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid at Harbor Shores, USA in May and then added the US Senior Open in July in a sensational campaign.

“It was a complete shock,” said Chapman. “Even Andy Stubbs (Managing Director of the Senior Tour) didn’t know anything about it. We were sitting there and the Duke started reeling off lots of statistics, so we thought it was going to be an award for Carl Mason.

“Then he mentioned about the two Majors, and I knew it must be me. It was totally out of the blue, and I’m very honoured.

“I only live an hour away from here, so it’ll be nice to come along to play when I can. I might try to get a game with Poulter!

“It’s been an amazing year – quite bizarre, really – and it’s the little things like this which make it even better.”
