Challenge Tour event in Ukraine is cancelled

The 2014 Karkhov Superior Cup on the European Challenge Tour, scheduled to be played in Ukraine in September, has been cancelled due to the unacceptably high risk to player, caddie, staff and spectator safety.

The Challenge Tour sought counsel from numerous Foreign Embassies representing players scheduled to be in the field for the tournament at the Superior Golf and Spa Resort in Karkhov from September 11-14, and all were consistent with their advice against non-essential travel to the region.

The Karkhov Superior Cup was scheduled to be the 20th of 28 tournaments on the 2014 Challenge Tour Rankings and was eagerly anticipated following the inaugural tournament last September, won by talented Dutchman Daan Huizing, a victory which helped him graduate to this season’s European Tour.

Alain De Soultrait, Director of the European Challenge Tour, said: “The safety of our membership, caddies, tournament staff and spectators remains our first priority. Therefore, due to what are unique circumstances, the 2014 Karkhov Superior Cup will not take place.

“We are in dialogue with Yuri Sapronov, President of the Superior Golf and Spa Resort and main sponsor of the event. It is very much our hope to return in 2015.”
