Casey's pursuit of maiden Major title boosted by fast start on Sunday

Paul Casey grabbed a share of the lead early on the final day of the 2020 US PGA Championship after following up three opening pars with back to back birdies on the fourth and fifth.

Casey, who is looking to secure his maiden Major Championship title at the 64th time of asking at TPC Harding Park, started the day two shots behind third round leader Dustin Johnson but had joined a six way tie at the top by the time he had played five holes on Sunday.

Johnson made a birdie at the first hole to become the first player to reach double digits under par this week but returned to nine under par after failing to save par at the third.

He was joined at the summit of an extremely busy leaderboard by Englishman Casey and fellow Americans Bryson DeChambeau, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Champ and Scottie Scheffler.

Casey made a patient start to his fourth round, producing a solid par save at the first before picking up his first shot of the day from nine feet at the fourth.

The Englishman followed that up with another birdie on the fifth but it was nearly even better, as his approach shot from the right side of the fairway almost found the cup for an eagle.

Tony Finau was one shot behind the co-leaders on eight under, while England's Justin Rose was in the group another stroke back after making one birdie and no bogeys in his first six holes.

Byeong Hun An set the early clubhouse target on four under par after posting a closing 64 which included a hole-in-one at the 11th.
