David Carter caught David Park at the top of the leaderboard at the Compaq European Grand Prix at Slaley Hall with a 4-under-par round of 68.
Only Lee Westwood bettered Carter's round on a blustery third round in Northumberland. His 67 moved him up the field into a tie for 4th place.
Overnight leader Park had seven birdies on this difficult scoring day, but a double bogey at the 7th and three bogeys elsewhere meant he finished with a 70 to share the lead.
Sunday looks like being the battle of the David's as their nearest challenger, Peter O'Malley, is 6 strokes behind on 8 under par.
