Cappelen ace delights Himmerland Hill

Denmark’s Sebastian Cappelen delighted the home fans who packed Himmerland Hill with the second hole-in-one of the week on the iconic par three 16th hole during the third round of Made in Denmark.

The 26 year old, playing in his first regular European Tour event, earned one of the biggest cheers of the day when he holed his pitching wedge at the famous hole, which was playing at 96 yards on Moving Day.

This is my first so it was a good time to do it!

Cappelen was playing in the fourth group out, so his memorable moment was not caught by the television cameras, but in the spirit of Made in Denmark, fans watching from the vantage point caught the occasion on their mobile phones, as compiled below.

The hole-in-one - the second on the 16th after Robert Karlsson’s first round ace - was also witnessed by the Mortensgaatd family, who walked away with a souvenir to treasure after catching Cappelen’s lucky ball when the Dane celebrated the 34th hole-in-one on the European Tour this year by throwing it into the crowd.

Cappelen’s own reward, aside from the crowd’s response, was the hole-in-one prize of two Garia luxury golf cars – one for himself and one for his caddie – which he was presented with after signing for a two under par round of 69.

“It feels incredible,” said Cappelen. “It’s such a cool thing. This is my first hole in one, so it was a good time to do it.”
