Ben Campbell fired a brilliant 66 to set the clubhouse target and surge into a five-shot lead on day two of the Fiji International presented by Fiji Airways.
The New Zealander had shared the lead overnight after producing arguably the round of the day on Thursday with a 67 in the afternoon's high winds.
He went one better on Friday to get to 11 under and move six shots ahead of his nearest rivals in the clubhouse, with two of his fellow overnight leaders chasing him down.
Australian duo Nick Cullen and Andrew Dodt were both one under in the early stages of their second rounds to sit at six under, a shot clear of China's Wu Ashun and Kiwi pair Harry Bateman and Nick Voke.
Campbell is playing just his ninth European Tour event but two of those came here in 2016 and 2017 when he made the cut on both occasions.
The 26 year old birdied the second, fifth and seventh to turn in 33 and when he added further gains on the 11th, 12th and 14th, his lead was up to five shots.
He made another birdie on the 17th and while he gave the shot back on the last, he was still in a commanding position.
Cullen had eagled the par five first but gave a shot back on the fourth, while Dodt birdied the first but dropped a shot on the third.
Two-time European Tour winner Wu had been within one shot of the lead when he eagled the 17th to go with birdies on the 11th and 12th but he also bogeyed the 18th before birdieing the third and dropping a shot on the eighth.
Bateman sandwiched birdies on the third, fourth, ninth, 11th and 12th with bogeys on the first and 17th, while Voke overcame a double-bogey on the 11th with a bogey, five birdies and an eagle on the 17th.
Jarryd Felton was also five under after two pars in his second round.
India's Ajeetesh Sandhu was four under after a 67 alongside Australians Terry Pilkadaris and Travis Smyth.
