Ben Campbell saw his lead cut to two shots as the leaderboard tightened up on day three of the Fiji International presented by Fiji Airways.
The New Zealander entered the weekend with a four-shot lead and stretched that to five in the early stages as he threatened to run away with things at Natadola Bay Golf Club.
He then made four bogeys in five holes from the fourth but picked a shot back up on the ninth turn in 38 and sit at nine under.
Indian Gaganjeet Bhullar and Australians Andrew Dodt and Terry Pilkadaris were then at seven under, two shots clear of another Australian in Anthony Quayle.
Jarryd Felton, Matthew Griffin, Jake McLeod and Travis Smyth were then at four under with nine players within five shots of the lead.
Bhullar made a birdie-birdie start to join Dodt in second and Pilkadaris - who had made a gain on his final hole on Friday - picked up where he left off, birdieing the first to get within four of Campbell.
That was soon five back as Campbell made his first gain of the day on the third and it all looked to be plain-sailing for the leader as playing partner Dodt dropped a shot.
Campbell dropped a shot on the fourth to see his lead cut to four and some signs of nerves were potentially seeping in as he saw a par putt from inside eight feet on the next lip out to cut the gap to three.
Pilkadaris also bogeyed the fifth to slip to six under, while two-time European Tour winner Dodt put an approach to ten feet and regained the stroke he had lost on the third.
Campbell stopped the rot with a par on the sixth but he missed the green on the seventh and when he failed to get up and down, the lead was just two.
All three of the players in the final group missed the green on the par three eighth and with Pilkadaris the only man able to save par from the sand, Bhullar was alone in second and just one off the lead.
The eighth was proving a tough test and Quayle had been one of the few players to make a birdie, adding to a gain on the first to get within three of the lead.
The final group needed to regain momentum and they all got a boost before the turn, with Campbell hitting the green in two and Dodt and Pilkadaris both getting up and down on the par five ninth for a trio of birdies.
After Siddikur Rahman's ace on the second on Friday, the holes-in-one just kept coming with two more perfect tee-shots on day three.
Thitiphun Chuayprakong and Kieran Muir also aced the second hole to take the tally for the season to 25.
