Campbell moves ahead in Fiji

Ben Campbell turned in 33 to open up a three-shot lead early on day two of the Fiji International presented by Fiji Airways.

The New Zealander produced arguably the round of the day on Thursday as he took a share of the overnight lead at five under after playing in the stronger afternoon winds at Natadola Golf Club.

He picked up right where he left off on Friday morning, making three birdies on the front nine to get to eight under and lead the way from countryman Harry Bateman, China's Wu Ashun, and fellow overnight leaders Nick Cullen, Andrew Dodt and Jarryd Felton.

Campbell is playing just his ninth European Tour event but two of those came here in 2016 and 2017 where he made the cut on both occasions.

The 26 year old birdied the second, fifth and seventh on Friday morning to set the pace.

Two-time European Tour winner Wu had been within one shot of the lead when he eagled the 17th to go with birdies on the 11th and 12th but he also bogeyed the 18th in his first 11 holes.

Bateman had also played 11 holes, birdieing the third, fourth, ninth and 11th after a bogey on the first.

The three Australian overnight leaders were due out with the later starters.

Australians Maverick Antcliff and Matthew Griffin were also due out in the afternoon at three under, a shot clear of defending champion Jason Norris, Stephen Leaney, Ajeetesh Sandhu and Nick Voke, who had moved into the group six shots back.
