Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri will once again host the European Challenge Tour’s Spanish Swing when the Road to Mallorca visits Spain for the Challenge de Cádiz and the Challenge de España later this year.

The Cádiz venue hosted the Spanish double header in 2020 and will do so again in 2021, with the Challenge de Cádiz taking place from June 10-13, before the Challenge de España takes place the following week from Wednesday June 16 – Saturday June 19.

In last year’s Spanish Swing, the Czech Republic’s Ondrej Lieser and Spain’s Pep Angles triumphed as both players went on to finish in the top five on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and therefore earned additional starts on the European Tour in 2021.

The two events will be jointly promoted by the Real Federacion Española de Golf, Real Federacion Andaluza de Golf, the Tourist Board of Cadiz, the Diputación de Cádiz and the City Council of Chiclana.

Jaime Salaverri, President of the Professionals Committee of the RFEG, said: “It is great news for the Spanish professionals, not only the fact that the institutions have shown their interest in continuing to support golf, but also that they can compete again for two weeks on a great course such as Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri.”

Pablo Mansilla, President of the Real Federacion Andaluza de Golf, said: “We are very happy to welcome the players back to Andalusia, a favourable destination for golf.

“The Andalusian Federation is making a strong commitment to professional golf, supporting tournaments of the men's and women's European Circuits to be played here because, despite the circumstances, it continues to be one of the preferred destinations for all Europeans.”

José Román Guerrero, Mayor of Chiclana de la Frontera, said: “Last year's experience was fantastic and there is no doubt that we want to repeat it and go further. Having golfers come to our land brings us the best competition, tourism, and joy, which is what we need to recover to normality.

“This is a very special year for us, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Novo Sancti Petri, one of the best resorts in Spain, and thanks to the Challenge Tour the images of our land, our culture and our golf courses will travel the world with the aim that, soon, tourists can return from anywhere in the world to play golf.”

Rafael Hernández Alcalá, Director of the Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri, said: “It is an honour for the Iberostar Real Club de Golf Novo Sancti Petri, on the 30th anniversary of this magnificent tourist destination of Chiclana de la Frontera, to host two extremely important events in the international calendar of the Challenge Tour.

“Undoubtedly the effort of all have made possible the development of these two tournaments, Challenge de Cádiz and Challenge de España, to be held at our venue, designed by the most emblematic figure of European golf, our beloved Severiano Ballesteros.”

Javier Gervás, General Manager of JGolf, said: "The celebration of big events like these is essential for the promotion of a tourist destination, and we appreciate the efforts of all the sponsors who make it possible to give continuity to the promotion of Sancti Petri as a privileged destination for the practice of golf in Southern Europe.

“Last year's experience was fantastic and, despite the circumstances, all the players were very happy with the course, the environment, the gastronomy and the weather. We are convinced that, once again, it will be a success.”
