Cabrera and Stenson lead at halfway stage

US Open Champion Angel Cabrera is 3-up on American debutant Hunter Mahan after 18 holes of their HSBC World Match Play Championship semi-final, while Sweden's Henrik Stenson is 1-up on six time winner Ernie Els of South Africa.

Argentina's Cabrera took route 66, six under par, over the West Course at Wentworth Club to Mahan's one under par 71, going out in 32 and back in 34 courtesy of an eagle on the 18th, to advance his efforts to make Sunday's final.

Els, who has a house backing onto the 16th hole and is revelling being on home-turf, shot a 69 to Stenson's 70. Els also came back in 34, helped by an eagle on the 12th hole, but it was Stenson's birdie on the 18th hole that ensured his slim advantage.

The afternoon stage of the schedule 36-hole contest will begin at 1.30pm and 1.45pm respectively.
