Bubba Watson focused solely on Texas

Defending champion Bubba Watson insists he is not looking past this week's WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play as the first Major championship closes in.

The two time Masters Tournament winner arrives at Austin Country Club on the back of a tied fourth finish at the Valspar Championship, which was won by England's Paul Casey on Sunday, and his recent strong form has put him in contention of adding a third Green Jacket to his collection at Augusta National next month.

"I feel good. This is my fourth week in a row and trying to just play into some better spots, trying to get the ball-striking where I want it to be and working on this arm-lock putting. Inside ten feet, it feels like it's getting a lot better.

"I'm trying to prepare for this week. I'm focused on this week, trying to focus and prepare for the first tee shot tomorrow. When the Masters is here, I'll focus on that."

Watson will take on Kevin Na in his opening match and also faces Ryder Cup team-mate Jordan Spieth and Billy Horschel in an all-American Group 15.

And Spieth, a Texas native, is delighted to return to a course where he has had previous success during the start of his career.

"It's awesome, especially being in a place that I'd spent some time in college," Spieth said. "We qualified here. I love playing the Texas events. I've added San Antonio again this year. Fun stretch here leading into Augusta, starting with match play, which is always a blast to kind of change the pace.

"For me, it's just about progression here. Match play can yield just about anything. I've gotten through in this tournament playing worse than sometimes when I hadn't."

I really haven't played a whole lot of match play since 2013 and I'm looking forward to it - Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is playing in his first WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play since 2013 and he is relishing the occasion and the round robin format, which was introduced in 2015, as he heads the other all-American Group 13 with Aaron Wise, Patrick Cantlay and Brandt Snedeker.

"It's been a while," Woods said. "I hadn't played in six years. I qualified for this event and worked my way back into this field, which is I think pretty positive. And I'm looking forward to getting introduced to this new format. This will be a little bit different than what I'm used to, but I've still got to win matches and move on.

"The only match play that I actually ever played was either in the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cups. And that was the singles, one on one. I really haven't played a whole lot of match play since 2013 and I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm looking forward to the fact that I just get to focus on one guy. Each and every shot is different, and you don't really care what the rest of the field is doing. I just have to beat the guy standing in front of me."

"The end of last year gave me a lot of confidence that I played as many events as I did to end the season. I was fired, I was tired, but my body held up. So that's something that has been very good. I have to play well and beat the guy in front of me in order to have that situation where I'm there on Sunday in the finals. So there's a lot of work to be done between now and then."

World Number One Dustin Johnson, who won this event in 2017, claimed the first World Golf Championships title of the season in Mexico last month and the American believes the players can feel the anticipation that World Golf Championships brings.

Johnson leads Group 1 alongside fellow American Chez Reavie, Japan's Hideki Matsuyama and European Tour member Branden Grace of South Africa.

"You definitely know when you're at a WGC compared to like a normal Tour event for the most part just because it's a bigger tournament in our schedule," Johnson said. "So you definitely know that. But I don't prepare any differently.

"I like the WGC events. They have some of our best fields of any tournament. It's a tournament where you want to play well in. It's definitely something different, but it's something that I enjoy. I like playing match play.

"It's you versus him. So it's different. We don't play a lot of match play events. If you have a bad hole, you can just put it in your pocket and walk to the next one."
