Brown delighted by Langer's WINSTONgolf presence

German resident Simon P Brown says he is delighted to welcome Bernhard Langer back to the European Senior Tour for the 2016 edition of the WINSTONgolf Senior Open.

Englishman Brown, who has lived in the city of Bonn for nearly 30 years, believes that Langer’s participation on the WINSTONlinks course in Vorbeck will cause the rest of the 60-man field to raise their game this weekend.

The ten-time Ryder Cup player and 2004 captain is making his third appearance in the WINSTONgolf Senior Open, and finished runner-up in his last appearance in 2014.

“Bernhard is going to be the number one attraction this weekend,” said Brown. “Not just because we’re in Germany, but it’s good for us and the Tour when he’s with us.

“It does a lot of good for us and our tournaments, so it’ll be interesting to see what the leaderboard looks like on Sunday.”

The WINSTONgolf Senior Open had been played on the WINSTONopen course, but has been moved to the unique inland WINSTONlinks course for this year’s tournament.

Relishing the prospect of a new challenge, Brown says that a number of scores may surprise spectators over the next three days.

“The more you play this course, the easier it is to find your way around,” he said. “That’s not to say it’s an easy course though.

“People think the scores might be high, but that’s never the case. The difference in playing a course like this is that we don’t have a score to orientate to from years before. It’ll be us going out there and finding out.

“You do need a bit of luck on links courses. Somebody asked me what score will win, but we really don’t know. After playing a couple of rounds this week, I think a score under par will win and it might be a bit lower than most people think.”
