The European Challenge Tour returns to St. Mellion Estate for a second year for the British Challenge presented by Modest! Golf Management. Here are three players to keep an eye on this week…
Form horse
Euan Walker is having an outstanding season and arrives on the south coast having registered three top ten finishes in his last four outings to climb into the top 20 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Tied fifth in the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge came before tied tenth in the Italian Challenge Open and a solo second at the Euram Bank Open. The Scotsman returns to St. Mellion Estate with fond memories too, having secured a maiden win on the Challenge Tour in this event last year with a birdie-birdie finish seeing him triumph by one stroke on the south coast.
Local boy
Brandon Robinson Thompson is having a career-changing summer. The Englishman successfully made it through Final Open Qualifying to make sure of his place in the 151st Open Championship. Teeing it up at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in his first Major, the 30-year-old went on to finish in a share of 59th place. Fast forward a week, and Robinson Thompson is now a winner on the Challenge Tour. An outstanding performance across four days of the Irish Challenge saw him secure his playing future with a two-stroke victory.
The outsider
Jiří Zuska arrives in Cornwall following an impressive couple of weeks on the Challenge Tour. The Czech hadn’t made a professional cut prior to the Big Green Egg German Challenge powered by VcG but altered that trend with a fine display in Neuburg. There he finished in a share of second place and the 24-year-old followed it with another assured performance in Ireland last week, carding rounds of 70-69-69-71 on his way to a tied 12th finish.
