Brandon Stone looks to maintain momentum at Jonsson Workwear Open

Playing on home soil has often brought out the best in Brandon Stone and he is hoping his recent good form can continue at the Jonsson Workwear Open.

Since losing his full DP World Tour playing privileges at the end of last season, Stone has enjoyed some encouraging results as he looks to return to the winner’s circle.

Stone, a three-time DP World Tour winner, has registered two top tens in his last five tournaments – both coming in South Africa at co-sanctioned European Challenge Tour and Sunshine Tour events.

The Club at Steyn City is this week hosting the second of back-to-back co-sanctioned tournaments by the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour.

Stone believes the signs are there that he is regaining the confidence in his game that saw him win three DP World Tour titles in three years and then a Challenge Tour title in 2021.

“I feel like I’m playing well,” said Stone.

“The European Challenge Tour events we had recently in South Africa were fantastic for me from a momentum point of view. The game feels good.”

Stone was only in his 27th start on the DP World Tour when he broke through and won his national Open in 2016.

A year later he claimed the third largest margin of victory in the history of the Alfred Dunhill Championship with his six-stroke win at Leopard Creek, and then in 2018 he closed with a stunning 60 to win his first Rolex Series title in Scotland.

Stone joins a strong home contingent this week, which includes three-time DP World Tour winner Thriston Lawrence, two-time 2023 winner Ockie Strydom and rising star Casey Jarvis.

The Jonsson Workwear Open will get under way at 6.30am local time on Thursday, with Stone teeing it up alongside countryman Lawrence and Spaniard Adrian Otaegui at 7.00am.
