Borja Virto moved to within two shots of overnight leader Adrian Otaegui after firing five birdies in his first 13 holes at the Lyoness Open powered by Sporthilfe Cashback Card on Friday morning.
The 25 year old began the day six shots off the lead after posting a two under par 70 on Thursday.
Starting at the tenth, Virto opened his second round with a birdie but dropped a shot at the short 14th to fall back to two under par.
The Spaniard made another gain at the 16th before firing back-to-back birdies at the 18th and first to move to five under.
And when Virto picked up a shot at the fourth for the second consecutive day, he joined Sweden's Björn Åkesson in a share of second place.
Frenchman Grégory Bourdy was a further shot behind after bouncing back from a bogey at the 11th, his second hole, with birdies at the short 14th and par five 15th to join the large group on five under par.
