Min Woo Lee recorded his best finish at a Major Championship as a bogey-free closing 67 handed him a top ten at the U.S. Open.
The Australian headed into the weekend at The Los Angeles Country Club with a chance of victory but admitted nerves got the better of him on Moving day as he fired a 74.
A stunning comeback saw him go seven shots better on Sunday and Lee, who already has a Rolex Series win and a top ten at the PLAYERS Championship on his CV, is clearly starting to feel comfortable at golf's top table.
"Yesterday I just put too much pressure on myself and was actually pretty nervous in a way," he said. "My practice was so good that I kind of put a little bit of pressure on myself, and today's was a little different.
"The pre-round was a little sketchy and not the best, and then you just go out there with a good mindset.
"Played amazing today, bogey-free. I don't have many bogey-free rounds ever so it's nice to do it at a Major.
"Lots of grit on that last round, but lots of good stuff, too. Played really good, and I'm really happy."
Conditions have gradually got tougher over the weekend on the North Course but Lee was up to the challenge in round four, birdieing from ten feet at the third, eight feet at the eighth and putting his tee-shot to 11 feet at the short par-three 15th.
"It's amazing," he said. "I don't get too many top results that often, as much as the top players, so it's really nice to do it at a Major and do it at a U.S. Open.
"Although people think this course wasn't that tough, I think it was pretty tough. I played my ass off for the last four days and I'm only five under.
"They definitely tricked it up on the weekend and I'm happy to get done and happy with the way I performed today."
