BMW to resume title sponsorship of the Italian Open

BMW will renew their title sponsorship of the BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi to further strengthen their partnership with The European Tour.

Robert Rock is presented with the trophy by Franz Jung, President of BMW Italy

The German premium car manufacturer has been the title sponsor of the Italian Open for the past three years and will once again bring its global golfing expertise to the 69thedition of the tournament at Royal Park I Roveri in Turin, from September 13-16.

Italy’s ‘big three’, namely Matteo Manassero and Molinari brothers Edoardo and Francesco, will headline the field just two weeks before Europe head to the USA to defend The Ryder Cup.

Manassero and 2006 Italian Open Champion Francesco Molinari were in contention before finishing in a tie for eighth place behind eventual winner Robert Rock last year, and both men are excited at the prospect of a return to Royal Park I Roveri with BMW, who will now title sponsor four events on The 2012 European Tour International Schedule

Manassero said: “It was great to contend in my national open last year and to play in front of our home crowd is something that I think all Italian players really look forward to. It goes without saying that I would love to win the tournament one day – it would be one of the most important moments in my whole career if I could win the Italian Open in front of all my friends at Royal Park I Roveri.

“It’s fantastic news to see that BMW are going to continue its title sponsorship again this year. I think BMW events are recognised throughout golf as world class tournaments and they can only help to further develop the Italian Open to a higher level.”

Molinari said: “BMW is a key partner of golf around the world and to have their support our national Open once again is great news. There is always an extra level of excitement to the week when we play at home in Italy and hopefully I will be playing at Royal Park I Roveri and then going to The Ryder Cup two weeks later. It would be very special to win the Italian Open again – I don’t think I would ever get tired of winning that tournament.”

Marco Ehmer, Marketing Director BMW Italy, said: “We are delighted to be a proud partner of the BMW Italian Open presented by CartaSi once again. Italy is one of our core markets in Europe and we are convinced to further strengthen our leading position within this competitive market.”
