BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES - DAY ONE

LUKE DONALD 64 (-7)

  • His 64 equals his lowest-career round on The European Tour. Previously shot 64 in the 2005 Volvo Masters, 2007 Barclays Scottish Open and 2008 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
  • His 64 beats his previous low round in the BMW PGA Championship, beating the 65 he shot in the final round in 2008.
  • His 64 is his lowest opening-career round on The European Tour, beating his 65 in the 2010 Madrid Masters.
  • Beats his previous best opening round in the championship by three shots when he scored 67 in 2006.

MATTEO MANASSERO 66 (-5)
*His first career round in the 60s in the championship.

*His 66 equals his lowest first round of the 2011 season. The other occasion he shot 66 this season in round one was in the Maybank Malaysian Open, where he won.

DARREN CLARKE 69 (-2)
*Playing in his 20th BMW PGA Championship.

  • His first round of 69 is the first time he has shot a round in the 60s in the championship since he compiled a score of 69 in round two in 2005.

COLIN MONTGOMERIE 69 (-2)
*His opening round of 69 matches his lowest of the season.

It is the fifth time he has shot this score in 2011. The previous four were at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, Volvo Golf Champions and twice at the Sicilian Open.

*His score of 69 was his 57th career sub-par round in the championship.

*His 69 was his 40th  career score in the 60s in the championship and equals the record of Sir Nick Faldo for the most scores in the 60’s in the history of the championship.
