Day 3 of the BMW PGA Championship saw a bumper crowd of almost 25,000 enjoy some terrific golf. Heading into the final day, here are a few key notes.
ALEJANDRO CAŇIZARES – 207 (-9)
Best finish of tied tenth in the Championship in 2008. Aiming to become the sixth different Spanish player to win the Championship. His father, Jose Maria had four career top ten finishes in the Championship, with a best of third here at Wentworth in 1987. Has not led going into the final round of a European Tour event since he won the 2006 Russian Open, his only win to date.
LEE WESTWOOD – 208 (-8)
Playing in his 20th consecutive Championship, with previous best finishes of second in 2011 and tied second in 2000. among top ten four finishes overall. Should he win he would set a record for the most appearances before winning the Championship for the first time. This would beat the previous record of 19 attempts before winning for the first time, set by Miguel Angel Jimenez in 2008. A win would also continue the recent English dominance of the BMW PGA Championship as he looks to become the fifth consecutive home winner.
MATTEO MANASSERO – 209 (-7)
Aiming to become the youngest winner of the Championship, aged 20 years and 37 days. This would beat the previous record of Bernard Gallacher, who was 20 years and 97 days in 1969. Also looking to become the second Italian to win the event, following Costantino Rocca in 1996.
RICHIE RAMSAY - 212 (-4)
Matched the lowest score of the week with a six under par 66. Made the cut on the mark at 146 (+2) and has now moved to tied 14th from a tie for 56th at the start of the day. His jump of 42 places was the biggest of the day. His 66 is his lowest round of the 2013 European Tour season. Is also his career-low round in the BMW PGA Championship, beating the 67 he shot in the opening round in 2010
MIGUEL ANGEL JIMÉNEZ – 212 (-4)
What a week for his 600th event, and he has improved each round, after rounds of 76, 69, 67.
GREIG HUTCHEON - 213 (-5)
His third round of 67 (-5) is the lowest by a club professional in the Championship since David J Russell shot 66 (-6) on the final day in 2002. Made the cut on the mark on 146 (+2). Now moved into a tie for 21st.
