Blue Green announces renamed Cordon Golf Open

Blue Green, the promoters and hosts of the European Challenge Tour’s final French event of the season, have announced a new partnership with Cordon Electronics, meaning the tournament will now be known as the Cordon Golf Open.

The tournament will be played for the ninth time from September 3-6 at Golf Blue Green de Pléneuf Val André, which has become one of the most renowned venues on the Challenge Tour schedule.

Cordon Electronics is a leader in the maintenance of telecommunications terminals in France and a three year contract means they will be title sponsors of the event in the lead-up to French golf’s finest moment – the hosting of the 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National in Paris.

Gaëtan Maëtz, Director of Operations and Development at Blue Green, said: “We are very proud that Serge Cordon and his company have come on board to support our tournament. For us, to have a Breton entrepreneur become a major partner of the only Challenge Tour event in Brittany has a particularly strong significance.

“They are already heavily involved in the development of the local area. With their various businesses, Cordon Electronics have affirmed their desire to play a part in the promotion of Brittany’s image.”

Alain de Soultrait, Director of the European Challenge Tour, said: “We are delighted the Cordon Electronics has joined the Challenge Tour family and put its weight behind this great tournament, which has gone from strength to strength since former Ryder Cup player Peter Baker won the inaugural edition in 2007.

“The Cordon Golf Open has become a mainstay on the European Challenge Tour schedule thanks to the stunning golf course, the beautiful hotel and the famous hospitality, all of which are a perfect advertisement for the region of Brittany.

“We must extend our sincere thanks to Serge Cordon for his support and his commitment and we are thoroughly looking forward to returning to Pléneuf Val André in September for what is sure to be another fantastic event.”

The Cordon Golf Open provides a unique opportunity for golf fans in the Brittany region, to see the players up close and personal and experience the atmosphere of a professional tournament in the heart of an exceptional setting, where the beautiful landscapes of wild moors overlook the sea.

The elite players of the Challenge Tour will be present as the race for European Tour graduation heats up and every cent of prize money becomes more and more important, so there is sure to be plenty of drama on France’s stunning north coast.

The tournament will also host a pre-qualifying event on Monday August 31 at Golf Green Blue Val Queven, giving a unique opportunity to local and international players to make a breakthrough on the Challenge Tour.

To introduce the sport to as many people as possible locally, entry is free. The promoters and organisers of the tournament, the Blue Green golf chain, have maintained this approach in its commitment to the development, promotion and democratisation of golf.

The arrival of Cordon Electronics on the Challenge Tour is a natural progression for the company, having developed the Cordon Golf Team in 2013.

Composed of 5 professional golfers - Sébastien Gros, Damien Perrier, Xavier Poncelet, Michaël Lorenzo-Vera and Christophe Brazillier – the team is currently making strides on The European Tour, the Challenge Tour and the Alps Tour.
