Bhullar closing in on Lundberg

Gaganjeet Bhullar made an electrifying start to his third round to charge into contention for the Czech Open at Prosper Golf Resort.

Mikael Lundberg

The Indian golfer has never had a top-ten finish on The European Tour but won on The Challenge Tour earlier this year.

And starting on the back nine, he recorded four birdies and an eagle at the par four 13th to be six under for his round and the tournament after just seven holes.

That was two behind Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg, who earlier had returned to birdie the last after a thunderstorm prevented some players finishing their second rounds on Friday.

England’s Oliver Fisher, who missed 20 of his first 21 cuts this season, birdied the first to join Spain’s José Manuel Lara in second place on seven under.

Bhullar was level in fourth with Ireland’s Damien McGrane and Scotland’s Steven O’Hara, who was three under for the day after five.

O’Hara holed an eight footer at the seventh to move to seven under, where he was joined by Bhullar, who picked up his seventh shot of the day at the first.

McGrane holed from 30 feet at the fourth and with Lara and Fisher dropping back it was a three-way tie for second behind Lundberg, who parred his first three holes.

Bhullar’s chances of recording The European Tour’s first 59 evaporated with four consecutive pars, but he was in a four-way share of the lead when Lundberg’s first birdie was followed by consecutive dropped shots.

Fisher holed a ten footer on the ninth to turn in 34, and with Bhullar birdieing the 15th and Lundberg picking up a stroke at the eighth, there was now a three-way tie on eight under.
