Atwal reined in early on day two

Arjun Atwal saw his lead cut to a single shot early on day two of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open as Englishman Laurie Canter made a big move up the leaderboard.

Three-time European Tour winner Atwal began the day four shots clear of his nearest challengers after posting a course-record 62 at Heritage Golf Club on Thursday.

But after carding two birdies and two bogeys in his opening 13 holes on Friday morning, India's Atwal was just one shot ahead of Canter as his second round neared its conclusion.

Canter, who secured his European Tour card at Qualifying School last month, enjoyed a strong start to his second round, firing four birdies in his first eight holes to get to eight under par.

Adilson da Silva and Miguel Tabuena were a further shot back in a tie for third.

Atwal, who will captain Team Asia in January's EurAsia Cup presented by DRB-HICOM, began his second round on the tenth tee and picked up his first birdie of the day at the long 14th.

He dropped a shot at the 16th but got it back at the par-five 18th to return to ten under.

And after beginning his back nine with back-to-back pars, Atwal carded his second bogey of the day at the third.
