Asia looked set for their first victory in The Royal Trophy as Europe struggled to close the gap during the singles.
Jose Maria Olazábal’s team trailed 6½-1½ going into the final day, but with only Paul Lawrie and Johan Edfors leading as the majority of games reached the turn the miraculous comeback needed seemed increasingly unlikely.
To make matters worse, four Asian players were ahead, including Prayad Marksaeng who was five up after just seven holes on Pablo Larrazabal.
Ryo Ishikawa’s contest with Soren Hansen and Nick Dougherty’s match with Charlie Wi were the only games still all square.
