Arnaus making the most of island life on Tenerife

Adri Arnaus revealed he was loving life on Tenerife after carding his best round yet at Golf Costa Adeje on day one of the 2021 Canary Islands Championship.

The European Tour is at the layout on the southwestern coast of Tenerife for the second week in a row and Arnaus brought some momentum after going 66-66 over the weekend at the Tenerife Open.

A 64 with two eagles beat the 65 he posted this time last week, and the home favourite could not hide his delight.

"I couldn't be more happy after one week here already," he said. "It was pretty intense over the weekend and I was able to rest up and get ready for this week. You can't take it for granted, even if you play well the week before.

"I came out pretty strong, got off to a hot start and kept it rolling the rest of the day. I was fortunate to make a couple of eagles - that's not something that happens very often. Very enjoyable and very pleased to start this way.

"We don't take as long over the shots now that we know what we have in front of us. At the end of the day, it's nice because you can rest up a bit more, you don't have to study the course. You can just go out there and enjoy this beautiful island."

The 26-year-old finished second three times in his maiden European Tour campaign in 2019 and then achieved a first Rolex Series top ten at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai the following season.

He had a positive start to the 2021 Race to Dubai on the Desert Swing but then caught Covid-19 before bouncing back with a top ten last week.

"Really happy to finish last season strong and start this season quite strong," he said. "I feel that I like all of the courses in the desert.

"But then I have to say getting Covid in Qatar, it was a little bit of a setback. But I take these things as a challenge. I made a couple of changes and obviously I had to come back as fit as I could.

"It's been a little bit of a process but I can say now that I'm getting into the shape that I want, so ready to perform."
