The big-hitting Thai had six birdies on his outward nine to move to 14 under par, where he was joined by overnight joint-leader Liang.

The Chinese golfer, who last won on The European Tour six years ago, birdied the second and third to be two under through five holes.

They were a shot ahead of South African Thomas Aiken, who was five under for the day through seven, and Scott Hend; the Australian birdieing four of his first five.

With Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat in fifth, the top five had just three European Tour titles between them.

Aiken matched Aphibarnrat’s outward 30 with birdies at the seventh and eighth, and led on his own at 14 under when both leaders missed short par putts within moments of each other.

Aphibarnrat missed a three footer at the tenth, while Liang failed to convert from half that length at the sixth.
