Aphibarnrat joins Perth lead

Kiradech Aphibarnrat turned in 33 to move into a share of the lead early on day two of the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth.

The Thai only joined the field for the event this week and did not have chance to play a practice round but has shown no ill effects, completing a 67 in his first ever round at lake Karrinyup Country Club and picking up three further shots on Friday.

Australian playing partner Lucas Herbert was also at eight under after picking up four shots in the morning, alongside defending champion and overnight leader Brett Rumford, who was among the later stars.

Sam Horsfield, Thorbjørn Olesen and Sean Crocker had then moved into the group two shots off the lead.

Should Aphibarnrat find himself in the top 24 tomorrow night, he will be one to watch in the six-hole match play on Sunday, having some pedigree in the format after his win at the 2015 Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play.

The three-time European Tour winner picked up birdies on the 11th, 14th and 15th with Herbert making gains on the tenth, 11th, 12th and 16th.

Olesen has some history around this layout with a victory at the  ISPS HANDA Perth International in 2014 and the Dane recovered from a bogey on the tenth with gains on the 11th, 12th, 14th, 16th and first in ten holes.

England's Horsfield has made just one cut from four since his convincing victory at the Qualifying School but found some form in Western Australia, with birdies on the 11th and 15th in his six holes.

American Crocker had completed ten holes with gains on the fifth, sixth, seventh and tenth to also sit two off the lead alongside afternoon starter Lee Westwood.

Jazz Janewattananond, David Bransdon,  James Nitties and Gareth Paddison were then all in the group at five under.
